A team of officers from Labasa and Seaqaqa Police station are monitoring the situation in Bua following the alleged rape of a Class 8 student during the Christmas week.

As hunt still continues for the eighth suspect, Divisional Crime Officer Northern, ASP Luke Rawalai said officers are also policing Dreketi and Bua areas to educate people on sexual offences.

It is believed the eight suspects are hiding in the bushes.

Tension is also high in the village as seven men charged with the alleged rape remain in police custody for their own safety.

The alleged incident took place when the girl went to spend her Christmas at a relative’s house in Bua.
