Police are monitoring the situation at the Naitasiri Bhartiya School in Baulevu, Nausori, after some villagers tried to build their homes inside the school boundary yesterday.

School president Lagan Prasad told Fijivillage that six villagers from a nearby village came to the school and started cleaning a part of the compound.

Prasad said when he asked them the reason behind the cleanup, the villagers said they will build their homes in the school compound as it is their land.

The police were then called in, who advised the villagers to seek proper procedures before taking any action.

Police spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri said the officers told the villagers to consult the Native Land Trust Board on whether the land belongs to them.

School president Lagan Prasad claimed the land belongs to the government.
