A Special Police Constable of Labasa Police station died after the police vehicle he was driving went off the road in Dreketi yesterday afternoon.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra has confirmed that the police officer was returning to Labasa from Nabouwalu when the accident took place.

It is believed the officer while avoiding a head on collision went off the road and was thrown out of the police vehicle as a result.

He died instantly while another officer received injuries and was treated and sent home.

Meanwhile, charges are expected to be laid against the driver of a private car who was involved in a head on collision in Serua last night.

The driver and two other passengers came to Suva from Soroko, Ba yesterday morning and were returning home when the driver lost control and as a result, the car went under the delivery truck.

The two passengers died instantly while the driver is admitted in hospital under police guard.

SSP Mishra has urged drivers to drive with care this festive season.
