The term of the current Commissioner of Police, Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua has expired.

The Ministry of Information has confirmed this after Fijivillage queried about the Commissioner's contract.     

The expiry of the Police Commissioner's contract will be dealt with under the 2013 Constitution upon the return of the Prime Minister from New York.

Under the constitution, the Constitution Offices Commission recommends the appointment of the Commissioner to the President.

In the transitional period before the first sitting of parliament, the Prime Minister makes the recommendation to the President.
