Police have started a major investigation into the Raiwaqa bus fire on Thursday night in Malaqereqere, Sigatoka, which claimed ten lives.
Director traffic Ramend Raj said a team of twenty police officers along with Land Transport Authority and National Fire Authority officials are working around the clock trying to determine the cause of the fire.
He said police have taken statements from the survivors of the incident and eyewitnesses at the scene.
Police have also put up a tent near the scene to guard the burnt bus.
Meanwhile, a team of independent forensic experts from Australia are expected to arrive in the country tomorrow to assist the authorities to investigate the horrific incident.
Police spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed they have sought the assistance of the forensic experts to speed-up the investigation process.
Police are still informing all the next of kin of the ten people who lost their lives in the tragic accident.
Senior Superintendent of Police Raj confirmed most of the bodies have been identified and the process of informing the next of kin is taking long because most of them lived in the outer islands of Ovalau, which is the reason for the delay.
The post mortem examination of the ten people who died began this morning.
The ten who died include seven females and three males and this also includes some children as young as a one-year-old baby.
The ten who died were trapped inside the bus and were unable to escape because of the glass windows.
