Nabouwalu Police are awaiting for the medical report of a Secondary School student of Bua who was allegedly beaten by a teacher.

Station Officer Nabouwalu has confirmed the incident saying that an official investigation is underway.

The school teacher who is also a priest allegedly punched and kicked the student after he was found talking to his girlfriend during classes. He sustained serious head and facial injuries and was bleeding.

He became unconscious and was rushed to the hospital by some teachers and students.

Meanwhile, the Interim Minister for Education, Filipe Bole has warned the teachers that corporal punishment was declared illegal by Justice Jayant Prakash at the Lautoka Court in 2002 and time and time again the Ministry has been reminding teachers of the " NO Corporal Punishment" directive.

Bole said Principals and Head Teachers are to be vigilant and address this highly sensitive issue and nip it in the bud, instead of sweeping it under the carpet.
