The Director of Public Prosecutions has filed 6 charges against each of the 10 accused that are to appear in court this morning in relation to the alleged plot to assassinate interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama, two Interim Cabinet Ministers and two senior Military Officers.

Media Liason Officer, Asishina Prasad confirms that each of the accused is charged with one count of inciting mutiny and five counts of each of conspiracy to commit murder.

However, it has been confirmed that police investigators had laid charges which included treason, instigating invasion and misprision of treason.

The ten people facing the charges in relation to the alleged assassination plot are Naitasiri high chief, Ratu Inoke Takiveikata, former senior military officer, Colonel Jone Baledrokadroka, former Fiji Intelligence Services Director, Metuisela Mua, politician, Peceli Rinakama and former CRW soldiers, Fihoko Gadekibau, Barbodoes Mils, Kamenieli Vosavere, Eparama Waqatakirewa and Isireli Cakau, and Siva-niolo Naulaga.

It is alleged that the ten attempted to incite members of the RFMF to go against the Army Commander. They are also charged with five counts of conspiracy to murder, where it is alleged that they plotted to kill Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama, Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry, Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and senior military officers, Lt. Colonel Samuela Saumatua and Lt. Col. Sitiveni Qiliho.

Earlier yesterday, Village News was informed that Colonel Baledrokadroka was charged with one count of treason by the police, where it is alleged that he conspired with Ratu Inoke Tavikeivataka and businessman Ballu Khan between August and November 3rd, 2007 to remove the President Ratu Josefa Iloilo.

He was also charged with instigating invasion for allegedly conspiring to call for foreigners to invade Fiji with armed forces.

The accused also faced one charge of misprision of treason. It is alleged that Baledrokdroka, while knowing that Ratu Inoke and Ballu Khan were planning to lead a group to commit treason did not inform the proper authorities.

On the charge of inciting to mutiny, it is alleged that Baledrokadroka attempted to incite members of the RFMF to go against the Army Commander.

They appear in court this morning at 11am for a hearing on bail and confirmation on the plea to be taken.
