With Government earning close to fifty million dollars in taxes from the tobacco industry, the Agriculture Ministry revealed that there are plans underway to expand the industry.

Permanent Secretary, Colonel Mason Smith said currently over 500 farmers cultivate tobacco with total government revenue derived from the tobacco industry in excess of $50 million which is contributing 2% to Fiji's gross domestic product.

He added that the Ministry is looking at boosting the industry as Fiji has the right climate for growing tobacco.
