Tailevu Dairy Farmers Association has confirmed there are plans to build a factory for dairy farmers in their area as the current Rewa Dairy Factory in Nabua cannot be further extended.
Spokesperson, Vijendra Prakash said a feasibility study needs to be carried out as farmers have a piece of Land in Waila which could be an ideal site for the project.
Meanwhile, 226 dairy farmers are expected to benefit from the implementation of Milk Price Subsidy Scheme which has been approved by Cabinet.
Acting Minister for Primary Industries, Aiyaz Saiyad Khaiyum said this scheme is part of a programme to increase self sufficiency by 50percent in the milk and dairy industry in five years.
He also said that their aim is to boost farm milk production by improving dairy farm infrastructure, farm administration and producing quality dairy products.
