In an effort to pull women out of poverty and enable them to realize their potential in national and economic development, the Ministry of Women, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation is looking at plans at setting up women centres around the country.
Minister for Women Dr Jiko Luveni said the centres will be under the Fiji Womens Federation and will ensure that all the Government resources directed towards women empowerment are well coordinated without any duplication
Dr Luveni said the centers will be able to accommodate women’s development activities and allow them to coordinate their projects from these centres.
One centre is expected to open up soon in Tacirua and the Ministry will work together with divisional offices to identify places where other centres are needed.
It is planned that 2 centres for the Northern Division, 2 in the west (Rakiraki and Nadroga) and 2 in the central division (Tacirua and Buretu.
