Planned Power Shutdowns Get Mixed Reactions
Flour Mills of Fiji have confirmed that they had meetings with the Authority who told them that there were two options available and this was either to have electricity out for close to three months or for two days. FMF confirmed they do have a backup system which will kick in as soon as the power cut comes into effect.
However, a clothing manufacturer in the capital said the planned power shutdown will indeed affect them as they may have to close their business because they do not have any backup systems thus affecting their sales.
Fiji Retailers Association President Himmat Lodhia said they are grateful that the FEA is considerate of the plight of retailers and will shutdown power after 1pm. Lodhia said due to last Saturday's power blackout at around 11am, there was a drastic drop in business as many had to close down early.
According to the Acting CEO for the FEA, power shutdown in the Suva City where shopping outlets are located will start at 1pm tomorrow and not 11am. Industrial area where the factories are located will only start at 11am with power shutdown for residential customers will also start at 1pm.
