Education Minister Filipe Bole has called on the school heads and managements to plan well on the use of grants to ensure services reach the students. 

Bole paid a surprise visit to nine schools in the Central Division yesterday with students beginning the first day of classes. 

He said now that the government has committed to the education for all Fijian children through free education grants therefore school heads need to ensure normal teaching and learning takes place in the classrooms from the beginning of the school term.
 
Bole is expected to visit more schools this week. 

Meanwhile, School heads and board of governors for government schools in the central and eastern division have been urged to ensure that all financial dealings are in compliance with the defined financial regulation.

Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary Dr Brij Lal said for the first time this year the schools will prepare its audit financial report while speaking to those undertaking a workshop on the financial management on the new free education initiative.

Dr Lal said Government schools should also set the pace for other schools to follow.

The Ministry of Education has disbursed all the term 1 grants to all schools for the 2014 academic year. 

The Ministry will continue its capacity building on financial management to its staff to ensure that accountability and transparency is observed.
