With the South Pacific Pageant Theme being “Preserving the Environment the Pacific Way” we should Plan, Prepare and Beware.
This is the motto being emphasized by Miss Fiji for the South Pacific Pageant starting this Saturday, Mere Nailatikau.
Speaking at a gathering at the US Ambassador's residence this week, Nailatikau informed those present of the importance of Disaster Preparedness in the region, something that can save many lives.
Meanwhile, at the Disaster Management Exercise at the Novetel Hotel, representatives from the Center for Excellence office based in Hawaii say that the media is an important tool during a natural disaster and if provided with useful and timely information, it can be used to communicate with the affected people.
Center for Excellence Director Lieutenant General John Goodman stressed that in most times media is provided with little information which makes their work difficult.
