Pilot road upgrade works launched in Wailada
That is the revelation of Local Government Minister Colonel Samuela Saumatua while launching the pilot road upgrade works in Wailada.
The CCAR was set up in 2009 by the Prime Minister to ensure that the Department of National Roads focuses only improving the functions of LTA, improving standards of shipping, bus services as well as identifying places where roads need to be made.
Col Saumatua said the Wailada project which costs around 1.5 million dollars is being given to Highway Stabilizers is the start of the outsourcing and this is all part of what the CCAR is doing.
Meanwhile, Highway Stabilizers Project Officer, Greg Bailey said in the past the roads that were made in Fiji are not able to handle the heavy loads being placed on them.
The Wailada pilot project will see the construction of seven new roads and will cost 1.5 million dollars and is expected to be completed in eight weeks time.
