Record breaking gold medal winner Michael Phelps will take part in Sunday's Olympic handover celebration in London.

The 23 year old American swimmer who won eight golds in Beijing said he was keen to see the venue for the 2012 Games in which he plans to complete. His eight medals in Beijing have made Phelps the most successful athlete in Olympic history, with a career total of 14 gold medals.

But despite admitting he was overwhelmed by the reaction to his success, he said the thing that gave him most pride was his improvement as a swimmer. Phelps said everything was accomplished in Beijing with record set in all of the 8 gold medals he won.

In the medal tally with 5 days to go China still in the lead 39 gold, 14 silver and 14 bronze.

USA at second place with 22 gold, 24 silver and 26 bronze while Great Britain at 3rd spot with 12 gold, 7 silver and 8 bronze.
