American Legend Michael Phelps bowed out of the Olympics with a 23rd career gold medal, as Great Britain took silver in the men's 4x100m relay.

The 31‑year‑old secured his fifth title of Rio 2016 as he teamed up with Ryan Murphy, Cody Miller and Nathan Adrian to set a new Games record of 3 minutes 27.95 seconds.

Britain, who were fastest in qualifying, finished 2.71 secs adrift.

USA also successfully defended their title in the women's 4x100m.

Elaine Thomson of Jamaica has beaten Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in the Women's 100m final to take out the gold medal.

Thomson clocked a time of 10.71 seconds and has become the fastest woman in the world.

Tori Bowie of USA settled for silver while Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce of Jamaica took the bronze.

Meanwhile, in the Olympics medal tally USA extends their lead with 24 gold, 18 silver and 18 bronze, China still in second place with 13 gold, 11 silver and 17 bronze while Great Britain is in third place with 10 gold, 13 silver and 7 bronze.
