The former Permanent Secretary for Information Peter Thompson has been appointed as Fiji's Permanent Representative to the United Nation.

Thompson who began his career as a civil servant in 1972 will be based in New Tork and take up his new position later this month.

He has met the President and Prime Minister in preparation for his diplomatic posting. Thompson has held many positions in the civil service since 1972 and has served in Tokyo as Charged affairs and in Sydney as Fiji's Consular General in the 80's.

Meanwhile NZ is yet to confirm the nominee for counsellor for Fiji's High Commission in NZ, Lt Colonel Neumi Leweni.
