A person has died from leptospirosis infection after the case was taken in late for treatment in Savusavu.
Ministry of Health Spokesperson Shalvin Deo confirmed that a few lives have also been claimed by leptospirosis.
Deo added an exact figure will be confirmed by this week.
In total 20 cases of leptospirosis were reported in the northern division from January to march this year.
The cases are mainly from the Bua, Cakodrove and Macuata areas, a few cases were reported from Savusavu.
He advises those especially in the villages should continue to wear covered footwear when wading in water that may be contaminated with animal urine.
