All Permanent Secretaries have been tasked with establishing in dollar value the exact savings each government ministry and department will achieve in the 2009 budget allocations.

That is the directive from the Public Service Commission Chairman Josefa Serulagilagi who held meetings with all Permanent Secretaries over the last two days on government's new vision of creating a more leaner and productive civil service.

Serulagilagi reminded the Permanent Secretaries that their Performance Agreement remains in place and that their contribution will be assessed and monitored according to the agreement and the outputs of their corporate plans.

Meanwhile, the Chairman also said with regards to the establishments that have been left vacant by retirees, all posts that have not been used for re-engagement have been placed in a pool at PSC and if Ministries wish to utilize these posts, they will have to provide justification before approval can be granted.
