The Peoples Community network has saved over $100,000 through Saving Schemes in squatter settlements in the Central Division.

Director Semiti Qalowasa said the scheme started in 2008 in 79 squatter settlements in Lami, Suva and Nausori and they have so far saved about $130,000.

He added that the squatters are saving a dollar a day and this money will be used to build affordable houses for them in the near future.

Qalowasa said a pilot project is underway at Jittu Estate in Suva and if this is successful other projects will follow.
