People’s Charter launching today
To achieve the vision of a way forward for Fiji through the adoption of the Charter, there are a number of factors that are needed to guide the strategy for Building a Better Fiji for All.
These include a just and fair society, merit based equality of opportunity, transparency and accountability, uplifting the disadvantaged in all communities, mainstreaming indigenous Fijians in a modern progressive Fiji, and growing the economy through conducive policies.
To undertake this vision a National Council for Building a Better Fiji will be formed and will first produce an Independent Report on " The State of the Nation and the Economy".
According to Technical and Support Secretariat Director, Sereani Bainimarama, the report will be on the political, economical and social status of Fiji and the draft will be prepared by six National Task Teams that will be formed to assist the National Council for Building a Better Fiji. Bainimarama adds that the report will be based on submissions made on the proposed document that was circulated to stakeholders including international and regional governments and institutions, local NGOs, provincial councils, government ministries and departments, trade unions, political parties, religious bodies and prominent citizens.
