We have to indicate to the newly elected Australian government that the People's Charter is not a replacement for the 1997 Constitution.
This is the view of the Citizen's Constitutional Forum Chief Executive Reverend Akuila Yabaki who said this point needs to be stressed while Fiji needs to also present a really good case to the Kevin Rudd led government for a possibility of having the travel bans on interim government members lifted.
Yabaki said that Australia is clearly committed to assist Fiji, however this will depend on the concrete steps that the Interim Government has taken towards democracy.
Interim Finance Minister, Mahendra Chaudhry confirmed earlier that they will engage in talks with Australia's Prime Minister-elect, Kevin Rudd once he forms his government.
