Peoples Charter The Way To Democracy-Interim PM
Speaking to the more than 100 members of the Bose ni Turaga, Bainimarama said one of the major changes will be in the electoral system where we have to move away from the race based voting system.
He added that they are waiting for the Commonwealth and the United Nations to initiate the Presidents Political Dialogue Forum where they will look at the way forward for Fiji.
Bainimarama added that the election will only be called if everything is in place then the Supervisor of Election will be informed to prepare for elections, which will then take 12 to 15 months before it can take place.
He reminded the chiefs that the Peoples Charter will be the way forward for the country as it has been overwhelming supported by the people of Fiji with 94.2 percent showing their support. The Interim PM said those who have criticized the meeting are not in any way helping their people and the country.
Bainimarama told the chiefs that we have to learn from the past and should respect the decision of the High Court which ruled that the Tui Vuda's appointment of the interim government as legal.
He stressed that as chiefs, they should set an example and follow the rule of the law and therefore the Bose ni Turaga is not illegal as many have labelled it.
His Excellency the President and Tui Vuda, Ratu Josefa Iloilo has called on the chiefs who are attending the Bose ni Turaga at Queen Elizabeth Barracks to have a broader perspective in taking the country forward.
Meanwhile Fijian Affairs official, Joeli Luvu was warned by the Military not to chase the media away from the Camp this morning.
Earlier today Luvu had told journalists to stay out of the meeting.
The meeting continues this afternoon.
