People travelling to and from Labasa will benefit from cheap air fares as low as $70 offered by Pacific Sun from the 11th of next month.

Pacific Sun will introduce a new schedule and additional flights between Suva and Labasa together from 11th of next month with a celebratory fare of $70 one way for a limited time.

Managing Director and CEO of Air Pacific, the parent company of Pacific Sun Dave Pflieger said the Labasa town council, Labasa Chamber of Commerce and people of Labasa were asking for lower fares, more flights and earlier departures to Suva with later returns to allow more time to conduct business.

He said they made these decisions for the betterment of the people of Vanua Levu.

Pacific Sun General Manager Jim Samson said they are offering $70 fares in commemoration of Fiji's 1970 independence year.

He added that while these fares will be available for a short time, the new lowest fare in the market will start at $99 after the $70 sale period ends.

Meanwhile, government has revealed that major upgrades will take place at Waiqele airport.

Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama revealed this while launching the introduction of additional flights to Labasa this morning saying that they now want planes to land at night at the airport.
