More than 100 people gathered at the Kinoya Methodist Church today to farewell one of Fiji's first recruits to the British Army in the 1960's, Asesela Waqairoba.

Waqairoba first joined the Royal Fiji Military Forces in 1961 and went on to serve 22 years with the British Army before returning to Fiji in 1985.

Fare welling his dad this morning, Asesela Waqairoba Junior spoke of his dad as a hero, not only to his children but also to his colleagues.

Waqairoba hailed from Solotavui, Nakasaleka, Kadavu and is survived by his wife and 6 children.
