The Interim Prime Minister has today stressed that people on strike and not attending work should not live in false hope that they would get their salary on pay day.
Commodore Frank Bainimarama said this is the normal practice and Fiji Nursing Association General Secretary, Kuini Lutua should not mislead the nurses by saying that the docking of their pay was illegal.
He said the basic understanding remains that people work to get paid.
FNA General Secretary, Kuini Lutua now said that it is understandable that those on strike will not be paid however this is done gradually not as a lump sum cut from a person's salary.
When questioned by Village News whether she expected tax dollars to be paid out to striking nurses who did not work for more than two weeks, Lutua said that at the end of the day there should still be some money paid to the nurses who have been on strike.
Lutua said the plight of the nurses and their families should be taken into account.
The FNA strike has been called off, effective this Saturday after 16 days of strike.
