People in Labasa have started moving to the evacuation centres.

Labasa Police confirms that people have adhered to the warning and have started moving to higher grounds or evacuation centres with 39 evacuation centres being activated in the area.

Northern Police also confirmed that they are experiencing strong winds and rough seas however there are no rainfalls at the moment.

Commissioner Northern Colonel Inia Seruiratu has confirmed some established evacuation centers in the North.

Seruratu said that some of the established evacuation centres include, in Taveuni, Tavuki Community Hall, Wairiki Primary School, Holy Cross Secondary School, Naqara LDS Church, Somosomo Community Hall, in Vanua Levu:- Savusavu Public School, Saqani Police Post, Waiqele Primary School and Kio Primary School.

In Labasa, these include Labasa Civic Centre, Labasa Sangam and Holy family.

Colonel Seruiratu will confirm later today all the evacuation centres that will be available in the North.

Close to 150 families on a small island near Vanualevu have started evacuating to higher ground.

Kioa Islander, David Taulia says that the small island is surrounded by sea and since last night they have been experiencing very strong winds and rough seas, however this morning the rain has stopped while the wind-speed have picked up.

Many of the islanders have already put up shutters while others are seeking refuge at the island Health Center.
