National Disaster Management Office Director, Akapusi Tuifagalele is urging people affected by the recent floods to use what they have readily available rather than relying on government’s assistance.

He made this comment when asked whether food rations have been distributed to flood affected areas.

He says it is a shared responsibility.

Tuifagalele says government will assist where assistance is needed.

He has also mentioned that the Prime Minsters' Rehabilitation Fund will be activated for the assistance of the flood victims.

Meanwhile, Tuifagalele says the Australian Government has offered $20,000 worth of assistance after the recent floods.

Tuifagalele says this will help in terms of aerial assessment and the provision of water purification tablets.

He says they have met with various head of missions yesterday and explained to them what Fiji has gone through.

He says the Government will welcome any form of assistance.
