Even though Christmas is just days away, people are not willing to spend as much as previous years.
These are the words of the Labasa Chamber of Commerce President Ashok Kumar in relation to consumer spending habits in the northern town during the festive season. He said the closing of the sugar mill this Friday and the wet season approaching has resulted in most cane farmers opting to save for the new school year.
Similar sentiments were echoed by the Nadi Chamber of Commerce President Dr Ram Raju, who said the jet set town is experiencing a decline in consumer spending also.
