Ratu Peni Volavola has retained his position as the Lord Mayor of Suva in the Mayoral Election last night.
After the election Ratu Peni said that he was confident to be re-elected adding that as they prepare for another 12 months ahead of them they should remember that they are there to carry out their duty and not to think of their own interests.
Ratu Peni told Fijivillage of their immediate plans for Suva City Council (SCC), one of them being rate arrears.
He said rising arrears in city rates is an alarming issue that the council has had to grapple with.
The unpaid rates over the years stand at $15 million.
Meanwhile, Josefa Gavidi was re-elected as the Deputy Mayor.
