The Permanent Secretary for Public Service Taina Tagicakibau confirms that while a further reduction in civil service pay is possible if the economic situation does not improve, it is not being considered at this stage.
Public Service Commission Chairman, Rishi Ram told Village news earlier today that the interim administration may opt for another pay cut for civil servants if the economy does not improve.
However, Fiji Nursing Association General Secretary Kuini Lutua said such a step will further victimize civil servants who are now suffering in silence.
Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions General Secretary Attar Singh said further pay cuts would be a failure on the part of the interim regime to improve the economic situation and they would fight it.
