The ban placed on the imports of plastic bags will help the National Waste Management in strengthening its strategy on the use of plastic bags.
Speaking to Village News, Director of Environment Epeli Nasome said the ban will cut down on problems regarding the removal and disposal of plastic bags.
Nasome also added the ban will help them a lot in addressing problems at the source rather than addressing plastic problems as they are being produced.
The ban will help the Environment Ministry a lot in urging the public on controlling the use of plastic bags and a proper disposal is needed for a cleaner and safe environment.
The ban on the imports of plastic bags was announced in the 2008 National Budget by Interim Finance Minister, Mahendra Chaudhry.
