As parliament gets ready to sit after almost eight years in the country, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said his main focus is to deliver the policies that benefit the people and to ensure that the civil service delivers the services to the people as expected.
Bainimarama said he hopes parliament does not end up with the opposition just opposing everything that the government brings up.
He said if that is the case as suggested by some SODELPA parliamentarians, then they should remember that the government enjoys majority support in parliament.
SODELPA Leader, Ro Teimumu Kepa said she cannot make any comments as Opposition Leader at this stage as a vote will be taken on who gets the post later this morning.
The 50 parliamentarians will take their oath in parliament today to serve Fiji and to uphold and maintain the 2013 constitution.
The next business in parliament today will be the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
As earlier highlighted by Fijivillage, Doctor Jiko Luveni will be elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives as the government side has majority support.
This will be followed by the election of the Leader of Opposition.
Ro Teimumu Kepa will be the new Opposition Leader as the opposition parties made up of SODELPA and NFP have already agreed to support Kepa as the Leader of Opposition.
