With the increasing number of sexual offences reported from the North, the Divisional Police Commander Northern is now urging parents to properly supervise their children at home.
ASP Isikeli Ligairi said when students come home from school they are left unsupervised as mostly parents are occupied with other social events.
Statistics from January to June reveal 61 reported sexual offence cases from the North compared to 60 last year.
The most common case was attempted rape and rape which stood at 27, up from 19 for the same period last year. Defilement reports increased from 14 in 2008 to 22 this year.
There were also increases in indecent assault cases.
