The Education Ministry says they cannot force parents to send their children to schools near their homes.
Education Minister Filipe Bole said they understand that some parents are facing problems in sending their children to school, in light of the increase in bus fares and they are talking to relevant stakeholders about the matter.
Bole said the Ministry is also discussing the issue of school zoning, but this is not in light of the recent problems and implementing the zoning system will be a last resort if the situation gets worse for parents.
Meanwhile, in light of the difficulties faced by many parents, ECREA is putting together a petition to revoke the bus fare increase.
ECREA's Director Chantelle Khan, who said they are currently in the process of putting together the petition and are hoping to get at least 20,000 signatures, before presenting it to government and other stakeholders, by the end of the week.
