Parents must play a leading role in their childrens lives.

These are the words of Interim Education Minister Filipe Bole on more reports of students caught sniffing glue on school premises. Bole said teachers can no longer shoulder the responsibility alone by monitoring every single student.

Bole said teachers are constantly raising awareness of the dangers and has urged parents to do the same at home.

The same sentiments were echoed by Fiji Teachers Union President Agni Deo Singh and Fijian Teachers Association President Tevita Koroi.

Singh adds that children are easily influenced by their parents behavior so they should lead by example. Koroi also called for parents to spend more time with their children so they're not left alone.

Koroi adds that the sale of glue should be closely monitored so it's not easily accessible to children.

Police say another four students were caught sniffing glue on school premises.
