Prevention is better than crying over your loss.

That is the message from the General Manager Road Safety at the Land Transport Authority, Timoci Satakala following revelations that the road death toll has risen to 40 after a five year old boy died yesterday afternoon in Lami.

Police revealed that the child was walking along Draunibota Road with his parents and his siblings when he suddenly ran onto the road and died instantly after being hit by an oncoming vehicle.

Statistics released by Police shows that of the 40 deaths on our roads so far this year, 18 were pedestrians of which 9 were children below the age of 10 years.

Satakala said that parents and guardians need to realize that accidents cannot be foreseen, adding that most accidents result in the loss of life and having a small child=s life ended so tragically can be avoided.
