As part of its Pacific plan, Telecom giants Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Limited has intentions to one day become the largest telecommunication provider in the South Pacific region and be able to compete with larger players in Australia and New Zealand.

ATH CEO Tomasi Vakatora said it is very much part of their bigger plans.

However, he said there are major obstacles to overcome due to the historical links between the Pacific island states who often want to guard their national identity.
