Senior officials from the Pacific Islands Forum Joint Working Group were yesterday briefed on the latest developments in the country and the proposed electoral reforms by the Interim Government.

Officials from Australia, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, PNG and Tuvalu were briefed that the Commonwealth Secretariat and the United Nations (UN) have been invited to facilitate the proposed reforms.

The working group also welcomed the dialogue between ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase and Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama.

They have again called on the interim administration to stick to their earlier commitment that elections would be held in early 2009.

Meanwhile, the president’s office is still awaiting word from the Commonwealth Secretariat and the UN on the proposed forum to discuss electoral reforms.
