The Pacific Island countries need to be vigilant to protect the Forum organization becoming a foreign policy tool of Australia and New Zealand.

Those were the words of interim Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama in a statement to the nation regarding Fiji's absence in Niue for the Pacific Island Leaders Forum meet and the focus of the interim government in moving Fiji forward.

Bainimarama added Australia and New Zealand seem to have usurped the moral leadership of the region adding that Fiji must now paddle it's canoe on its own.

The interim Prime Minister also said the interim government is trying to do their best to ensure that issues raised in the People's Charter are addressed because these are basic "bread and butter type of problems".

He called on those who have openly rejected the Charter to rethink their stand because the Charter will benefit every citizen of Fiji.

Bainimarama reiterated the need for people to understand that the Charter is not a legalistic document so therefore it will certainly not replace the Constitution.
