PSV code of conduct comes into effect today
From today, LTA expects all PSV drivers to adhere to the law and for drivers who do not comply there is a fixed penalty of fifty dollars, maximum five hundred dollars or three months imprisonment and drivers will have to clear their fine within the normal twenty one day time frame.
Spokesperson Doreen Narayan said PSV drivers booked three or more times for same offence will have their driver licence suspended for 6 to 12 months period.
Narayan said PSV drivers are to provide an effective and efficient customer service to the public at all times and the Authority will be closely monitoring this now.
Members of the public are advised to make full use of the toll free line 0800 3342 886, text 582 and email info@lta.com.fj to lodge any complaints.
The comprehensive code demands respect, integrity and honesty from PSV drivers while they render transportation services to the public.
The code outlines neat and tidy dressing, which means drivers must not wear round neck tee shirts with sleeves cut off, hats, beanies, chokers, ear rings or facial piercing.
Flip flops and slippers are prohibited.
Instead they must wear proper collar or round neck tee shirts and shirts must be worn with long pants.
All drivers must wear closed shoes and sandals.
Drivers must also avoid talking to passengers unless it is for safety or matters relating to the journey.
