The Public Service Commission is trying to cut down the size of the civil servants and is offering voluntary redundancy packages however only those on the verge of retirement have shown interest to take up the offer.
PSC Chairman Josefa Serulagilagi said the have put together a formula and hope to implement the redundancy policy in the civil service from January next year.
According to Serulagilagi, those intending to leave the civil service want to go out with a little extra money.
PSC is still in the process of establishing how much it would cost to offer the voluntary redundancy packages and how much it would save in expenditure with the reduction in the size of the civil service in the future.
