The Public Service may be running smoothly at the moment but at a cost to the Interim Government.
This is the view of Interim Public Service Minister, Poseci Bune, replying to comments raised by Economist Doctor Mahendra Reddy who said that the message the strike has, is that the public service is over staffed.
Bune adds that the Public Service Ministry is looking at a sector reform programme that will be looking at cutting costs in the Roads and Water departments.
Doctor Reddy had earlier said that even though the Interim Health, Education and the Public Service Ministers had said that essential services had not been disrupted by strike by affliates of the Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions, the Public service needed to look at the number of people employed in the sector.
