The Public Service Commission is closely monitoring the expenses of all government departments as it pushes to acheive a 10 percent reduction in operational costs across the board.
PSC Permanent Secretary Taina Tagicakibau confirms that fresh circulars have been sent to all heads of departments to ensure that civil servants abide by the strict rules being put in place.
She adds that the freeze on recruitment of new civil servants is also part of the efforts to reduce costs by 10 percent.
However, Fiji Public Service Association General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh said such circulars have been issued numerous times in the past and does not achieve anything.
