The Public Service Commission has issued 200 PSC scholarships for this year out of which 170 are local scholarships.
Permanent Secretary Parmesh Chand said they had only given 150 scholarships last year however decided to increase the numbers this year by awarding 30 to overseas scholarship recipients.
Chand said last year less number of scholarships were issued as many students accepted awards from other departments like Ministry of Indigenous Affairs, Multi Ethnic Affairs and AusAid.
He said some of the problems faced by the Scholarship Unit while processing the applications were incomplete documents provided by the applicants or applicants applying for non advertised programs.
