The Public Service Commission has advertised over 300 vacant positions today but still maintains that civil service numbers will be reduced.
Chairman Rishi Ram said these are critical positions which need to be filled as soon as possible.
However, he stresses that the size of the civil service will still be reduced by ten percent by the end of this year despite the additional staff being sought.
The vacant positions are said to be mainly in the Ministry of Education, Public Enterprise, Commerce Ministry, Office of the Attorney General and Finance and Sugar Ministry. Also positions of a number of headteachers, assistant headteachers and teachers are vacant in schools around the country.
