The Permanent Secretary for Sugar Yogesh Karan says he will await the full investigation reports regarding allegations levelled against former Fiji Sugar Corporation Ceo Abdul Khan before making public comments.

Karan has confirmed to Fijivillage that he has received certain allegations against Khan.

The matter has been referred to the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority and Reserve Bank of Fiji.

When asked on whether it is in relation to the approval of FSC’s board directors’ fees, Karan says he cannot disclose any details at this stage.

Karan stresses that allegations are allegations until they are proven.

We have sent questions to the Reserve Bank of Fiji and FRCA.

FRCA CEO Visvanath Das says under Section 52 (2) of the FRCA Act 1998, they are bound by their oath of secrecy not to divulge the tax affairs of any taxpayer to any third party outside FRCA.

Das says with all FRCA investigations, the outcome is made known if it’s in the interest of a particular group of taxpayers and the general public.
