Papua New Guinea has secured the rights to host the 2015 Pacific Games.

This was confirmed after the Pacific Games Council meeting today in Rarotonga where PNG secured 25 votes beating Tonga with 22 votes.

The PNG Government had committed to providing US$100 million to host the games if it wins the bid this week.

Looking at the Games ahead, in 2011 the Pacific Games will take place in Noumea, New Caledonia, in 2013 the Pacific Mini Games will be held in Wallis and Futuna and in 2015 the Pacific Games will be held in PNG.

Meanwhile, while the meeting was going on, the successful Athletics Team Fiji, who accumulated 18 Gold medals left Rarotonga to return to Fiji, with other sports that have been completed.

Competition continues in Rarotonga tomorrow with Bowling, Tennis, Table Tennis, Squash and Touch Rugby.
