Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama is on his way to New York to attend the UN General Assembly.
Bainimarama is expected to address the General Assembly on developments in Fiji and present the government's roadmap to democracy.
While in New York, Commodore Bainimarama is also expected to meet with the Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma.
He said he will then find out the Commonwealth Secretariat's position after his earlier meeting with Commonwealth Special Envoy Sir Paul Reeves.
Commodore Bainimarama also said they hope the Commonwealth assists Fiji in formulating a new constitution which has a non-race based electoral system.
According to the roadmap to democracy, the government will focus on rebuilding the economy until 2012 and work on the new constitution is expected to start in 2012 and be complete by September 2013.
Based on the roadmap, the next elections in Fiji will be held by September 2014.
