As the Prime Minister kicks off his tour of the Lomaiviti group this morning, the villages in the Tikina of Vanuaso in Gau are hoping to discuss the absence of a proper nursing station, after it was destroyed by Cyclone Tomas.

The villages in the Tikina of Vanuaso in Gau namely Nacavanadi, Lekanai, Lamiti, Vanuaso and Malawai are without a nursing station, as it was completely destroyed during Hurricane Tomas.

Turaga ni Koro at Nacavanadi village, Mitieli Loma said that this is one of the major issues the five villagers in the Tikina of Vanuaso will raise in their meeting with the Prime Minister on Friday.

Loma said the major difficulty faced by the villagers now is paying $70 for a boat trip, to take a sick patient to be seen at the health centre in Qarani, which is more than an hour travel by boat.

Loma added the scenario is worse when there is no fuel and no boats are available and they have to resort to herbal medicine to cure the sick.

The Prime Minister and his entourage are expected to be at Nacavanadi village by Friday afternoon.
